Some Context
• I worked as a Social Media Marketing Intern (May 2020 to October 2021), and later returned as a Social Media Marketing Manager (June 2023 to October 2023) for
Niche Street, a small Los Angeles based streetwear clothing company. Being involved since its launch and this allowed me to take on a variety of responsibilities
and experience the ins and outs of running a growing business.
• My primary role was establishing and expanding Niche Street’s social media presence. I created content for its Instagram and TikTok profiles, significantly
increasing brand visibility and consumer engagement. I managed promotional campaigns, designed organic content, and worked to ensure that every post
resonated with the target audience while maintaining consistent branding. Additionally, I played an active role in ideating and planning photoshoots; I learned to
collaborate on creative concepts and shot styles that aligned with the brand’s visual identity and storytelling goals.
Key Takeaways
• Understanding Platform-Specific Content is vital.
Each platform has its own unique audience, tone, and algorithm and I learned to tailor content to meet the needs of each.
â—‹ Instagram: Reels focus on visually polished, curated content. Videos need to align with Instagram's overall aesthetic, and should showcase brand consistency,
higher production quality, and storytelling that captures attention within the first few seconds.
â—‹ Tiktok: In contrast, TikTok thrives on authenticity and trend-driven content. Videos can feel more casual and spontaneous, with a focus on humor, relatability,
and participation in trending challenges or audios.
• Navigating Algorithm Shifts
â—‹ By closely monitoring engagement analytics, I identified what worked for each platform and adapted content strategies accordingly. This iterative approach
allowed me to stay ahead of shifts in algorithms and maintain consistent growth in reach and interaction.
• Optimizing Content Creation Workflows
â—‹ I learned to develop a streamlined content creation process by designing custom social media mockup templates. These templates ensured efficiency while
maintaining a cohesive look across all platforms, ultimately saving time and boosting brand consistency.
Adaptability In a Small Business Setting
• Working at a small business meant stepping far beyond my defined role. Whether assisting in brand strategy, analyzing data to refine our audience approach, or
brainstorming creative promotional ideas, I developed the flexibility and problem-solving skills essential for a dynamic work environment.
Final Reflection
• My time at Niche Street taught me invaluable lessons about social media marketing and the nuances of running a small business. I gained practical skills in content
creation, campaign management, and audience analysis, all while honing my ability to adapt and thrive in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment. These
experiences have left me well-equipped to navigate future marketing challenges and contribute to the growth of any brand I work with.
